What is Your Soul?

While the Soul is more of an experience than some ‘thing’ that can be defined by words, it still helps to arm ourselves with a few basic concepts before we start working with the Soul in our spiritual growth. And yes, it is still possible to define it using everyday words. But without experiential understanding, it would be harder to grasp what it really is.

For me, when I started meditation, I have no intellectual understanding of what my Soul is. I didn’t really question it at first because I was enjoying getting to know it experientially.

I thought it was just a fancy term that also means my higher self, my personality, my divine self, etc. Eventhough that is also somewhat true (because we are all ONE being), there are some distinctions between the Soul and other aspects of ourselves. And it is beneficial to have a foundational understanding of your Soul and its characteristics.

I find the definition of a Soul by Orin through Sanaya Roman the simplest but most comprehensive of all. Below is an adaptation of that definition, accompanied with my personal experience of it.

The Soul is from a higher spiritual dimension called the Soul Plane

• Your soul is made of light and is the embodiment of love. It brings the light, love and energy from the higher dimension to you 
• It is the repository of all wisdom, love, and spiritual will and power that you have gained from every lifetime. 
• It grows more complete and beautiful with each shift you make, as you add all that you are now learning to your soul's light.”Your soul is always evolving and growing. 
• In your Soul’s presence, you are accelerated to another vibrational level. In this Soul space, usually there are varying degrees of loving feelings from contentment to joy.
  

The Soul’s purpose is to master the Earth plane as part of its evolution

• The Soul is a master on its own plane, the Soul Plane. You are here because your Soul has chosen Earth as its playground for evolution.
• To grow and fulfill its higher purpose, your soul needs to become a master of the physical Earth plane in which you live. 
• Part of the Soul’s purpose is to learn how to send its light into your personality, mind, and emotions to establish its higher light and rhythm in all of them. 
• When your human self or personality receives light, it ascends to a higher level of consciousness. Your level of spiritual evolution is determined by the mastery your soul has gained on the earth plane.
• What you desire consciously is a small portion of what your Soul desires (and that is usually spiritual growth); so it helps to know that all desires (no matter how you judge them), are neither bad or good – they are merely your conscious self picking up what your Soul is expressing.
  

The Soul is an inner intelligence

• It is beyond the mind that makes up the combination of your mental, emotional, and physical bodies. 
• This intelligence holds the qualities of mental awareness of what goes on within and without.
• Your Soul’s purpose is to help you to be aware, be conscious and to know that your Inner God-self is all there really is – the ultimate Abundance you have been seeking for.
  

The Soul is intelligent and creative

• It contains your essence since the beginning of your creation, and it holds all the patterns that created the different aspects of you in different lifetimes, as well as this one. 
• It works with universal energies and is the real manifestor in your world, drawing matter to itself to create forms in your physical world.
  

You are your Soul

• Your Soul is you, in spiritual form and it is not separate from you.
• You can connect with, work and blend with your Soul. You can eventually become your Soul. But remember, as it is always in a constant state of evolution, blossoming into you as your Soul is never ‘done’.
