Self Centred Focus

I recently had an interesting counseling case where the client was bent on proving that he was right. He made an appointment to see me to sort out some issues he has and 5 mins into the counseling, I knew that he had wasted his time and money to come to see me. Because he was bent on interrupting me whenever I had a chance to speak and trying to prove to me that he was right and that he knew what to do!

We do indeed live in a very strange world. :-) I am not saying that I have all the answers to his issues/challenges, but having an ability to listen and process what other people have to say is very much part of healing/learning. Why pay for a counseling session if one is not even open to listening?

Not only do we live in a strange world, I think for the most part the reason why we have so much imbalance within people and in the world is because of 'Self Centred Focus' - Too inward and self involved in one's own issues that one is not able to widen one's perspective. It is unfortunate but true that when people are too self centred focus, there is quite little chance for a person to heal. One of the keys to healing is the ability to see beyond one's problems and learning not to be too caught up because often times the 'solution' is often right in front. Limited perspectives causes one to suffer in one's little world. A widened perspective allows one to be open to solutions and answers. Having said that, it is like a chicken and egg story, because a person with a wide perspective will not see problems as problems but opportunities for learning and growth, so this person will rarely be in a position of being stuck in their little own world. Whereas a narrow minded person will keep going around in circles with little understanding of the need to move beyond the limited perspectives!

I have a personal principle of asking myself whenever I feel stuck in a situation, is there another way to see this? And lo and behold, there always is! And immediately the answer becomes clearer.

I hope this will inspire you to look beyond self imposed limitations and perspectives and allow yourself to expand in wondrous ways!
