Addictions Kill

Addictions kill. I know, it is pretty obvious to most people. But I think addicts do not realise how they can kill themselves easily especially when their addictions render them completely powerless.

Once I was drinking before dinner at a friend's place, we were going to paint the town because it was her birthday. We started drinking too much too quickly on empty stomachs and then decided to smoke some 'other' substance too. A guy who was crazy about her came along too. Soon, we were pretty much a very 'happy' bunch.

We left her apartment and as we were going down the lift, the guy passed out. He was a tall guy and so he fell quite heavily because we didn't have the strength to hold him up because we were busy giggling! We thought it was so funny we couldn't stop giggling. When we reached the ground floor, we dragged him out, still giggling. We didn't know what to do and the last thing we wanted to do was take him to a doctor because we would be found out. So, instead of thinking about his well being, we thought about ourselves first. And we just sat there and waited for him to wake up, not thinking that he may not wake up or that something may be seriously wrong with him.

Thankfully, he became conscious again. So we decided to return to the apartment. And in the lift he fainted again! We dragged him out again and slowly back to the apartment. Being such die hard party animals we went on to party the night away after that and in truth, I don't even remember what happened the rest of the night.

Occasionally I thought about this incident and how dangerous it was for all of us being so smashed out of our minds. I am so thankful for having transformed my life around. I don't know what has happened to my friend or the guy. The last I knew she was still in the party circuit.

I feel blessed to have woken up.
